A construction worker has died after suffering 'crushing injuries' while building the stage for Shakira's upcoming concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, organisers have confirmed.
The accident occurred on Sunday 26th April during assembly of structures for the show. The state fire brigade reported that the worker sustained crushing injuries to his lower limbs in a lifting system. Despite being removed from the equipment by colleagues, he later died in hospital.
The concert, titled 'Todo Mundo No Rio', is scheduled for 2nd May on Copacabana Beach. The worker was a local contractor, not part of Shakira's touring crew. The stage area has been cordoned off with caution tape.
It remains unclear whether the concert will proceed as planned. Shakira, who has faced previous stage safety issues on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour, had been promoting the event on social media.
