This is the shocking moment a man pushes a 92-year-old woman to the ground in an apparent random attack in New York City. The incident was captured on camera on a street in Manhattan on Friday afternoon.
The man, walking in the opposite direction, is seen clipping the pensioner on the head, causing her to topple and hit her head on a fire hydrant. He looks back but continues walking away.
Police have arrested a 31-year-old man, identified as Rashid Brimmage of the Bronx, in connection with the attack. He has been charged with assault.
The victim, named locally as Geraldine, a former teacher, told NBC New York she was "so glad" an arrest had been made. She said her physical wounds were relatively minor and have healed, but the psychological impact has been worse.
Speaking to the New York Post, she said: "This damned guy put me in a state where I’m fearful to walk the streets alone."
