Police have launched an investigation after the body of a woman was discovered on Seaburn Beach in Whitburn, North East England, early on Friday morning.
Northumbria Police received a report at just after 5am and attended the scene, where the woman was pronounced dead. Her death is currently being treated as unexplained.
Emergency services cordoned off a section of the promenade while they worked, but the area has since fully reopened.
Enquiries are underway to formally identify the woman and notify her next of kin. A police spokesperson said: 'Just after 5am today (Friday), we received a report that the body had been found on Seaburn Beach in Whitburn. Emergency services attended the scene where the body of a woman was sadly located.'
