A 27-year-old woman was discovered dead inside a freezer at an abandoned home in Dallas, and hours later the property was destroyed by a suspicious fire, prompting a police investigation into whether the two incidents are linked.
Body Found in Vacant House
Officers responded to a vacant residence on Georgia Avenue in East Oak Cliff around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, where they found the body of Mariah Murray inside a freezer, according to Dallas police. The house later caught fire, and Dallas Fire-Rescue was called to the scene. Investigators have not disclosed the cause of the blaze or whether foul play is suspected.
No arrests have been made, and authorities have not released information about a suspect or possible motive. Murray’s family, who describe her as a “good spirit,” are pleading for answers and justice.
Family Seeks Justice
“All of these people around here, somebody who knows did it,” Murray’s cousin told Fox4. “Somebody seen her. They know who did it.” Another family member added, “She didn’t deserve what happened to her.”
Neighbors expressed shock over the gruesome discovery. Cesar Labrador, a local resident, offered condolences: “I really do give out my condolences to her family and hope they’re okay.”
A neighbor who spoke anonymously described the vacant property as a frequent location for drug activity. Family members acknowledged that Murray had faced challenges but said nothing justified her death.
“Oh, she had plenty of options, but people choose to do what they want to do,” one relative said. “But whatever they chose, she didn’t deserve what happened.” Another family member added: “People just make mistakes. You know, maybe she was hanging with the wrong people. Somebody had to see something, and somebody had to know something, so they need to speak up. We want justice. We want whoever did it found. Point-blank. Period.”
