A man has died after jumping into the River Thames in an attempt to rescue a woman who fell from London Bridge in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Two men witnessed the woman fall into the river just after midnight and entered the water to save her. Emergency services, including the coastguard and Metropolitan police marine units, attended the scene and rescued the woman and one of the men. However, an extensive search for the second man was launched, involving police helicopters, marine units, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, and City of London police officers.
At 06:00, a body was found believed to be that of the missing man. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers from the City of London police.
The incident comes as the search continues for a 13-year-old schoolboy who fell into the Thames from Tower Bridge on Tuesday morning. A woman who witnessed the fall jumped in to help but could only retrieve his school bag.
