A 72-year-old passenger has died after falling from aircraft stairs while disembarking at one of Brazil's busiest airports. The woman, whose name has not been released, arrived on LATAM flight LA3785 at Congonhas Airport in Sao Paulo from Ribeirao Preto, in the northeastern region of the state.
Details of the Incident
The accident occurred upon arrival, and the woman was immediately assisted at the scene before being rushed to a hospital. She passed away just after midday yesterday at the private Alemao Osvaldo Cruz Hospital in Sao Paulo, two days after the fall. Local reports indicate she was admitted with a skull bleed.
LATAM Airlines Response
LATAM Airlines Brasil issued a statement expressing deep regret: 'On Friday, a passenger suffered a fall while descending the stairs during disembarkation from flight LA 3785 (Ribeirao Preto to Congonhas). She was assisted by an ambulance and taken to a local hospital for treatment, accompanied by a company employee who remained on site until the family arrived.' The airline extended its condolences and emphasized that it followed all established protocols and maintains rigorous safety measures.
Congonhas Airport Background
Until 1985, Congonhas was Sao Paulo's main airport, handling domestic and international flights to neighbouring countries. Since the opening of Guarulhos Airport, international operations ceased, but Congonhas remains vital for regional and short-distance domestic flights.
