A California woman who cut off her ex-husband's penis and disposed of it in a kitchen waste disposal has been sentenced to life in prison. Catherine Kieu, 50, was convicted of the attack, which occurred in July 2011 in Orange County.
Kieu drugged her former spouse with sleeping pills before tying him to a bed and using a knife to sever his penis. Prosecutors said the couple were going through a divorce at the time. Police reported that Kieu told officers at the scene that her husband deserved it.
Under the sentence, Kieu may be eligible for parole after seven years. Her lawyers argued that she suffered from mental health issues stemming from childhood abuse and abuse by her ex-husband. However, the victim stated that he lost part of his life and identity as a result of the attack.
