Woman Cuts Off Husband's Penis Over Second Wife Row

A woman in Italy has been arrested after allegedly cutting off her husband's penis because he insisted that his other wife move in with them. The 35-year-old Bangladeshi woman reportedly used a kitchen knife to sever her 41-year-old husband's member while he slept after a post-lunch nap.

Details of the Incident

The couple had recently relocated from the town of Sant'Antonio Abate to the nearby town of Angri in Campania. The husband had found a larger house capable of accommodating an extra person, but his second wife was furious at the prospect of living with his first. When he refused to back down, she allegedly resorted to extreme measures.

The Attack

According to reports, the woman waited until her husband fell asleep, grabbed a kitchen knife, and sliced off his penis. Screaming in agony, the man stumbled onto a first-floor balcony to call for help. Two women passing by heard his cries, managed to enter the house, and attempted to stem the bleeding until an ambulance arrived. They reportedly placed the severed penis on ice in hopes it could be reattached.

Medical and Legal Response

Upon arrival at the hospital in nearby Nocera Inferiore, surgeons determined that reattachment was impossible as the organ was 'permanently compromised'. They operated to control the hemorrhage. Police found the wife pacing in a dazed state, allegedly still holding the bloody knife. She was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Authorities are also investigating whether she drugged her husband before the attack.

The alleged assault is being investigated by Carabinieri police led by Commander Gianfranco Albanese and local prosecutor Gianluca Caputo. Lawyer Angelo Pisani, founder of an anti-domestic violence organization, has offered to defend the husband pro bono, stating: 'This is a case of unprecedented violence... This kind of violence must always be condemned, regardless of who committed it.'

Similar Cases

This incident echoes the 1993 case of Lorena Bobbitt, who cut off her husband John Wayne Bobbitt's penis after alleging rape. In that case, the severed member was found in a field and reattached after ten hours of surgery. Lorena was acquitted by reason of temporary insanity and spent a month in a mental hospital. The couple divorced in 1995.
