A 43-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the bodies of a two-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy were discovered at a home in Stafford on Sunday morning.
Staffordshire Police named the children as Meraj Ul Zahra, aged two, and Abdul Momin Alfaateh, aged three. Officers found them unresponsive with injuries inside the property, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman, from the Stafford area, remains in custody. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior police contact with the family.
Detective Inspector Kirsty Oldfield said: “We are working hard to understand more about what happened leading up to these two children tragically losing their lives. We ask that people do not speculate at this stage as it is distressing for family and friends and could hinder our inquiries.” She added that there is no wider threat to the public.
