Woman arrested after man, 36, stabbed to death in Blackley

A murder investigation has been launched after a 36-year-old man died following a stabbing in Manchester, police have said.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of a disturbance at an address on Berwyn Avenue in Blackley at around 2.45am on Saturday (August 15).

Officers attended the scene and found the man with a leg injury consistent with a stabbing.

Victim dies from injuries

He was taken to hospital for treatment but sadly died from his injuries on Monday morning (August 17), officers said.

GMP said a 29-year-old woman, who was initially arrested on suspicion of wounding and assaulting a police officer, has since been further detained on suspicion of murder. She remains in police custody.

Investigation ongoing

Officers from our Major Incident Team (MIT) are leading the investigation, which is ongoing.

DI Terina Arthern from our North Manchester District said: “I would like to express my sincere condolences to the victim in this case, we have informed his next-of-kin, and our thoughts remain with his family and friends following this tragic incident.

“Our investigation has been moving at pace since the weekend to establish the facts, and we have a woman in custody who is being questioned by our officers.

“It is believed that the suspect and the victim were known to each other and I would like to reassure people who live and work in Blackley that this is an isolated incident, with no threat to the wider community.”
