A 53-year-old woman from Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs after Merseyside Police discovered a massive haul of cocaine with a street value of £10m at a property in Old Swan.
Police Operation Uncovers Hidden Drugs
The operation, carried out on July 8 by officers from Merseyside Police's Liverpool proactive team alongside Project Medusa, a Merseyside-led initiative targeting county lines drug dealing and child criminal exploitation, led to the seizure of over 100 kilos of cocaine. Detective Inspector Gary Stratton stated: "This property was used to conceal over 100 kilos of cocaine worth around £10,000,000."
Second Major Seizure This Week
This marks the second significant class A drug seizure in Merseyside this week. Just a day earlier, officers confiscated 38 kilos of cocaine with a street value of £2.6m. The woman arrested is set to be questioned at a Merseyside police station.
Impact on Communities
Detective Inspector Stratton highlighted the damaging effects of organized crime: "Organised crime is hugely damaging to our communities, often involving intimidation, violence and creating fear. Those who are involved in organized crime have no thought for anyone other than themselves, and their criminal intent and greed." He added that Project Medusa is dedicated to removing illicit drugs from communities and disrupting county lines gangs, while protecting vulnerable individuals who may be exploited.
