A woman and her young child have died after getting into difficulty in the water at a park in west London, police have confirmed. Officers were called to Elthorne Park in Ealing just before 4.30pm on Saturday, where the pair, believed to be mother and son, were recovered from the water but died at the scene.
The Metropolitan Police said an investigation is under way but their deaths are not being treated as suspicious. Detective Superintendent Pete Thackray, from the Met's west area command unit, expressed condolences and praised the efforts of first responders and members of the public who tried to help in an incredibly challenging situation.
Police have not released further details about the victims, and inquiries into the exact circumstances of the incident continue.
