An 80-year-old woman was hit by a pellet fired from an air gun as she walked near a Wetherspoons pub in Shaw, Oldham, her family has said. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has confirmed an investigation is underway.
Incident Details
The woman was with a group of friends on Milnrow Road at around 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, when a car—possibly a white Skoda—drove past and someone inside fired the pellet. The pellet struck her arm, leaving a bruise. One of her friends was reportedly knocked off her feet. The group had just finished a meal at a nearby restaurant.
Family Account
A family member said: "There was a group of them, and they are all volunteers. They had been out for a meal and were walking along Milnrow Road at the time. The pellet hit her on the arm. She said she thought it was a pellet and it had left a bruise. She was just a bit shaken up by it all really. Another of the ladies was knocked off her feet in the incident." The family added that CCTV footage is available and the woman is awaiting a formal police interview.
Police Response
In a statement, GMP said: "We are investigating reports of a woman being injured by a pellet gun on Milnrow Road, Shaw, at around 9.20pm on 1 July. The woman suffered minor injuries, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances." No arrests have been reported, and police are appealing for witnesses.
