A 25-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a two-vehicle crash on the M56 motorway near Manchester Airport. The collision, which left one car overturned and another on fire, caused the eastbound carriageway to close overnight.
Crash details and emergency response
The incident occurred between junctions seven and six on the M56 at around 11.40pm on Sunday, August 16. Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the scene. According to National Highways, one car caught fire while the other overturned.
The eastbound side of the motorway was shut while crews responded to the incident.
Arrest and injuries
In an update on Monday, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said one male suffered minor injuries. A 25-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
Reopening after cleanup
Spillage and clean-up works were carried out on the motorway into the early hours. The motorway fully reopened at around 5am on Monday morning.
