Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have confirmed that an incident initially reported as a stabbing in Wigan was in fact a dog attack. Four individuals have been arrested, and the animal involved has been euthanised.
Incident Details
On Wednesday, June 24, police were called to Albert Street in the Newtown area of Wigan following reports of a stabbing. An air ambulance was seen landing on a nearby Aldi car park. However, after further investigation, GMP clarified that the incident was a dog attack on Albert Street.
A man in his 30s sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where his condition is now described as stable.
Arrests and Animal
Three men and one woman were arrested on suspicion of being the owner of a dangerous and out-of-control dog. All four have been released on bail pending further enquiries. The dog was put down by authorities.
A GMP spokesperson stated: "On Wednesday, June 24, officers were called to reports of a stabbing on Albert Street in Wigan. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the incident was actually a dog attack where the dog caused serious injuries to a man in his 30s. The victim was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition. Three men and one woman were arrested on suspicion of ownership of a dangerous and out of control dog and have all been interviewed and bailed. Enquiries are still ongoing but we do not believe that this was an intentional attack and the dog has been put down. There is no wider threat to the public in relation to this incident."
