Man dies in workplace accident at Whitley Bay funfair

A man in his 20s has died after suffering serious head injuries in a workplace accident at the Spanish City Summer Funfair in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside. Police and emergency services were called to the scene at around 2.15pm after reports that a man had been injured. Despite treatment at the scene, he was declared dead shortly afterwards.

The victim, who has not been named, sustained serious head injuries. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. The funfair, located in Whitley Bay's Spanish City Plaza area, has been closed until further notice.

Northumbria Police have launched an investigation in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive. A police spokesperson said: "We have contacted the Health and Safety Executive and are working with them to establish exactly what happened." Anyone with information is asked to contact police via social media or the force's website.
