A man in New Mexico, USA, has been charged with murder after allegedly killing a friend he believed was turning into a zombie. Damon Perry, 23, is accused of attacking the victim with kitchen knives, an electric guitar, and a microwave last Thursday.

Police say Perry had been binge-watching the television series The Walking Dead and drinking heavily before the incident. Detective Moses Marquez of Grants Police Department stated, 'He attributes this murder to him drinking way too much and binge-watching The Walking Dead.'

According to Detective Marquez, Perry told investigators he acted because his friend 'began to change into a zombie' and tried to bite him. The attack occurred in a block of flats in Grants, New Mexico, after which Perry reportedly 'went after' other tenants, who then called police.

The Walking Dead, based on a comic book series, is set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. The show, now in its sixth season, stars British actor Andrew Lincoln and recently broke cable records with 17.3 million viewers for its season six premiere.
