A major food recall has been issued for pasta products sold at Asda and Morrisons due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous bacterium that can cause severe illness. The recall affects three pasta salad products commonly found in meal deal sections across stores in England, Scotland, and Wales.
Products Affected by the Recall
The recall, issued late on 7 August, includes Asda's Nacho Cheese and Cheese & Tomato pasta salads, as well as Morrisons' Chicken & Bacon pasta. Greencore, the manufacturer, is recalling the products due to potential Listeria contamination.
Customers are advised not to eat the products and to return them to any store for a full refund, with no receipt required. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all affected locations.
Health Risks and Symptoms
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which may be deadly. Symptoms can resemble flu, including high temperature, muscle aches, chills, nausea, and diarrhoea. In rare cases, serious complications such as meningitis can occur.
Those most vulnerable include individuals over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, infants under one month old, and people with weakened immune systems.
