The UK government has instructed social media companies to remove content showing people driving the wrong way down roads. A Downing Street spokesperson said the glorification of dangerous driving “for clips and entertainment is utterly disgraceful”, adding that Ofcom, the UK’s online regulator, has the government’s “full backing to take tough action” against platforms that fail in their legal duties.
Arrests after fatal A66 crash
Twelve people have been arrested on suspicion of offences including being involved with organised crime as part of the investigation into events leading to a crash on the A66 near Middlesbrough on Saturday. The crash killed two police officers and five others.
Burnham accuses Kremlin of threats
Andy Burnham has accused the Kremlin of “outrageous threats” against Britain, after Russia warned of an escalation in tensions following the UK’s decision to present Ukraine with newly declassified blueprints to allow Kyiv to improve its production of long-range missiles. Burnham has been in Kyiv today on his first official visit to Ukraine as the UK’s prime minister.
Graduate vacancies and victim criticism
Graduate job vacancies in the UK have sunk to their lowest level since they started being tracked a decade ago, according to a recruiting website. Separately, survivors of violent crime and families of victims have criticised the UK government for announcing “world first” plans to introduce restriction zones for serious offenders freed from prison within a few weeks without spelling out how they would work.
