UAB Football Player Charged with Attempted Murder After Stabbing Teammates

A University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) football player has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing two teammates on Saturday morning, hours before the team's game against the University of South Florida.

The university confirmed the incident in a statement, saying both injured players are in stable condition. The suspect, also a player, is in custody. The statement did not name those involved, citing patient privacy and the ongoing investigation.

According to AL.com, the suspect faces charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder. The team decided to proceed with the afternoon game at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, where 29 players were honoured on Senior Day. Interim head coach Alex Mortensen said a small number of players chose not to play following the incident. UAB lost the game 48-18 to South Florida.
