A nine-year-old girl has died after being found seriously injured at an industrial estate in Arbroath, with two other individuals also taken to hospital. The incident occurred at Elliot Industrial Estate around midnight on Monday, August 3, and the girl was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Police investigation underway
Police are treating the death as suspicious and have arrested a 35-year-old white British man. The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed that three patients were conveyed to Ninewells Hospital after crews were called to the scene.
Detective Superintendent Nicky McGovern said: "Around 12.02am on Monday, August 3 2026, officers were called to Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath after a nine-year-old girl was found with serious injuries. She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she later died. A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death, which is being treated as suspicious. Her family are being supported by specialist officers as inquiries continue."
M67 closed after human remains found
In a separate incident, the M67 motorway has been shut in both directions between junctions three at Hyde and four at Hattersley after workers reportedly found human remains. National Highways stated the motorway is expected to stay closed all day due to the nature of the incident. The westbound side has since reopened, but the eastbound remains shut.
A GMP Tameside spokesperson said: "Please be aware that officers are dealing with an ongoing incident on the M67. While investigations continue, the M67 will be closed in both directions for majority of the day. Please find an alternate route and we are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. Thank you for your cooperation."
