Two men have been arrested following a two-vehicle crash on the A1 near Barton, North Yorkshire, in which a 22-year-old woman from Newcastle died.
The collision involved a silver Ford Transit and a silver Volkswagen Golf, both travelling southbound, and occurred on Sunday evening at around 6.10pm between Junction 57 and Junction 56. Emergency services attended, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Arrests and family support
Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. A 31-year-old man from Newcastle and a 23-year-old man from Grimsby have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The road remained closed until 5am on Monday while collision investigators carried out examinations and the vehicles were recovered.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage, particularly from anyone who saw the collision or either vehicle in the moments leading up to it. They are also keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage that may have captured the vehicles prior to the collision or the collision itself.
