Two people have died after a BMW left a road and crashed into a lamppost in Rotherham. The white BMW 3 Series swerved off the East Bawtry Road carriageway at a roundabout at around 6.43pm on Saturday.
Arrest and bail
A man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on police bail. Police believe the BMW had been travelling alongside a blue BMW 4 Series before the collision.
Emergency response
The fiery wreckage was seen as cars stopped in the middle of the road. Members of the public fought alongside firefighters, paramedics and police to save the people inside, but both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification of those involved has not yet taken place.
