Two fathers were arrested after a fight erupted outside Wellesbourne Primary School in Norris Green, Liverpool, on Monday, July 20. Merseyside Police responded to reports of a dispute involving two men on Abbotsford Road at around 8:30 am.
Arrests and Injuries
The two men, aged 32 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of affray. One man was taken to hospital for a check-up, but police confirmed there were no reports of serious injuries.
School Confirms Pupil Witnesses
Wellesbourne Primary School confirmed that two parents were involved in the incident, which was witnessed by a small number of pupils. A school spokesperson said: “We can confirm that there was an incident this morning involving two sets of parents which was witnessed by a small number of pupils. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the school. We expect all members of our wider community to act with respect and consideration. The incident was dealt with promptly by school staff and the police, and we will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to address the matter appropriately.”
Neighbours Describe Chaos
Residents on Abbotsford Road described hearing shouting and screaming. One woman said: “I heard shouting and screaming but didn’t see what happened. I thought it was something to do with the school. I went to take my dog out and there were police everywhere, an ambulance was there too.” Another neighbour added: “I didn’t see exactly what happened but it was chaos. There were loads of police, shouting and screaming. This was at about 8:30am.” A third resident said: “I saw police cars going towards Fairmead Road. I have no idea what happened. It’s really quiet around here.”
Police Presence
When the Liverpool ECHO arrived at Abbotsford Road at 10:50 am, two police cars were parked outside the school and another was parked nearby. Officers left the school just before 11:30 am. The road was cordoned off at the junction with Fairmead Road earlier in the morning.
