Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino had his home burgled less than two days before he was arrested and charged with drink-driving, Merseyside Police have confirmed.
The burglary took place on 22 December at Firmino’s house in the Mossley Hill area of Liverpool. A gang stole items worth approximately £70,000. Firmino and his family were moved to a hotel, and the club later installed a security team at the property.
Detective Inspector Steve Christian of Liverpool CID appealed for the return of the stolen goods: “While the occupiers were not in at the time, it has clearly been very upsetting to find their home has been targeted in this way. I would ask the offenders to do the right thing and return the stolen items to the owner in any way possible.”
Firmino was stopped in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Christmas Eve and charged with drink-driving. He is due to appear in court on 31 January, the same day Liverpool are scheduled to host Chelsea.
The incident follows an attempted burglary at Wayne Rooney’s home in August, carried out while the Manchester United forward was playing in a testimonial. Robert McNamara, a former serviceman from Scarborough, was jailed for that attempted burglary in December.
