Two Arrested After Man Found Dead on Road in Atherstone

A man in his 50s has been found dead at the side of a road in Warwickshire, prompting a police investigation and the arrest of two individuals. The victim was discovered on Monk's Park Lane in Atherstone just after 1.30am on Friday, April 3.

Warwickshire Police have arrested a 23-year-old man from Nuneaton and a 74-year-old man from Shifnal on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drink driving, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. Both have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Police believe the man was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene. Officers are appealing for CCTV, doorbell camera, and dashcam footage, particularly of a red Mercedes Vito van seen in the area around 1am.

PC Craig Pearson from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “An investigation into the incident has started to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. I'm especially keen to speak to anyone who saw or has video footage of a red Mercedes Vito van in the area around the time of the incident.”

The victim's family is being supported by a specially trained liaison officer. Anyone with information can report it online or call 101, quoting incident number 25 of 3 April 2026.
