Two men have been arrested after a knife fight broke out between two groups of men in Huyton. Police were called to Kipling Avenue at around 4.40pm on Tuesday, September 8, following reports of a fight.
It was also reported some of those involved were carrying bladed weapons. Officers attended the scene and, despite both groups attempting to flee, two people were arrested.
Arrests and custody
A 19-year-old man, from Huyton, was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a knife/blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.
A 24-year-old man, also from Huyton, was arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of a knife/blade/sharp pointed article in a public place, possession of class B drugs including cannabis and ketamine, and acquiring, possessing or using criminal property.
Both men remain in police custody. No injuries have been reported, but Merseyside Police said it is taking the incident "extremely seriously".
Section 60 order introduced
Following the incident, a Section 60 order has been introduced in Huyton, giving officers additional powers to stop and search people they suspect of being involved in criminality or disorder.
The order came into force at 6.25pm today, Tuesday, and will remain in place until 5am on Wednesday, September 9. The designated area covers locations within the boundaries of the M62, Windy Arbor Road, Dragon Lane, Warrington Road, High Street, Derby Street, Liverpool Road, Twig Lane, Church Road and Roby Road.
Under the Section 60 order, males aged between 14 and 45 can be searched if officers believe they are involved in crime. A Section 60AA authorisation has also been introduced, allowing officers to require people to remove face coverings if they believe they are being used to conceal someone's identity.
Police appeal for information
Anyone who refuses to remove a face covering when instructed by an officer could be arrested, while officers can also seize the covering.
