Two police officers were injured in west Belfast when a car rammed their parked vehicle a number of times, the PSNI has said. Two men have been arrested following the incident, which happened just before midnight on Tuesday in the Dunmurry area.
High-speed pursuit on Glen Road
Officers on mobile patrol on the Glen Road spotted a silver Nissan Juke travelling at high speed, according to a PSNI spokesperson.
“The officers waited for a safe location before signalling for the car to stop, after it pulled into a laneway along the Ballycolin Road,” they said.
Vehicle rammed and officers injured
“The driver of the car, however, subsequently tried to force their way back onto the road, ramming the parked police vehicle a number of times in the process and injuring the two officers inside.”
“They will now be attending hospital this morning, Wednesday 26th August, for treatment to their injuries,” the spokesperson added.
Arrests and appeal for information
A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences including attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving, driving when unfit through drink or drugs and possession of a class A controlled drug. A 44-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A controlled drug.
Police have appealed for anyone who saw the car on Tuesday night, or who has any information which could assist, including dash-cam or other footage, to contact police using a witness appeal form at reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals, quoting reference 1771 of 25/08/26.
