Two men have been arrested following an armed e-bike pursuit in Gorton, Manchester. Police officers on patrol spotted the bike being driven erratically on Mount Road last night (September 24).
The e-bike failed to stop, and shortly afterwards the two men on it fled on foot as officers gave chase. One officer detained a man who was said to have a flick knife in his waistband. A second officer detained the other man, and a machete was found underneath a parked car nearby.
Arrests and charges
Greater Manchester Police said the 22-year-old driver of the e-bike was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, possession of an offensive weapon and failure to stop. The 22-year-old passenger was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. Both remain in custody for questioning.
The force released body worn footage taken by one of the arresting officers. In a statement, police said: "Officers from the Gorton and Levenshulme neighbourhood team were patrolling last night (Thursday 24 September 2026) when they came across a Sur-Ron bike driving erratically through residential streets."
Pursuit details
"At around 6.30pm a short pursuit ensued after the bike failed to stop for officers on Mount Road, Manchester, before the two male suspects jumped from the bike and tried to make off on foot. Officers immediately detained the passenger who had a flick knife located in his waistband. The second officer witnessed the driver of the bike drop a machete before running off. Following a foot chase, the officer detained the man and the machete was located underneath a nearby parked car."
Operation Rossi
Zac Campbell, City of Manchester Neighbourhood Inspector for Greater Manchester Police, said: "We are dedicated to tackling the illegal use of e-bikes and associated criminality on the Fallowfield Loop and surrounding areas.
"Through Operation Rossi, we have made over 30 arrests, conducted 126 stop searches, seized 27 vehicles including Sur-Rons, adapted e-bikes and off-road bikes and seized 23 weapons including a machete, knives, bats, air rifles and more.
"We will not stop in our fight against criminals who look to use weapons and violence on our streets. Knife crime and associated criminality has no place in our communities, and I would encourage people to continue reporting any concerns to ourselves."
