Three men have been handed lengthy prison sentences for the terrifying abduction of a 12-year-old schoolgirl in a brazen daytime kidnapping that unfolded in a stolen taxi.
Dramatic footage released by Greater Manchester Police shows the moment the young victim was snatched from a street in Oldham and forced into a waiting vehicle, in a crime that has sent shockwaves through the community.
The Harrowing Ordeal
The court heard how the child was walking home when a silver Skoda Octavia, disguised as a taxi, pulled up beside her. In a matter of seconds, she was violently dragged into the back of the car by 29-year-old David Fowl.
As the fake cab sped away, the terrified schoolgirl was subjected to a horrific assault inside the moving vehicle before being dumped by the roadside, traumatised but physically safe.
The Perpetrators Brought to Justice
The twisted trio behind the attack have now been jailed at Minshull Street Crown Court. David Fowl, who carried out the actual abduction, received a 12-year sentence with an extended licence period of five years.
His accomplices, Mohammed Ali, 32, and a 17-year-old male who cannot be named for legal reasons, were sentenced to eight years and three years respectively for their roles in planning and facilitating the shocking crime.
Police Praise Victim's Courage
Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Davies of GMP's Major Incident Team praised the victim's immense bravery throughout the investigation and court process.
"This was a horrifying incident for anyone to experience, let alone a 12-year-old child," he stated. "I would like to acknowledge the incredible bravery she has shown... I hope that the conclusion of this case and the sentences handed down allow her and her family to begin moving forward with their lives."
The investigation involved extensive review of CCTV footage which ultimately led to the identification and arrest of the three perpetrators within days of the attack.
