Tributes to Arran Callander killed in Bathgate crash

A 20-year-old man who died in a three-car crash in Bathgate during Storm Boelo has been named as Arran Callander. He was the driver of a white BMW that collided with a blue Citroen Saxo and a blue Peugeot 208 on the B708 Lower Bathville road at around 12.15pm on Sunday, October 25.

Arran died at the scene alongside the 84-year-old male driver of the Peugeot. The passenger of the BMW, a 19-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment, while the occupants of the Citroen, a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Family and friends pay tribute

Arran's sister, Angela, led the tributes, describing him as "one of a kind". She said: "You will be so missed by so many. It's not sunk in. I want to see you again. It's like I'm dreaming. Thinking of everyone affected by the crash, Love you so much, forever and always. Fly high."

Amelie Johansen wrote: "I'm never going to get my head around this. My longest friend. The memories we’ve shared along with all the laughs we’ve had will always be at the front of my mind. I'll never forget your one liners. You had everyone laughing. You really were one of a kind, Arran. None of this feels real and I don't think it ever will."

She added: "The grief that has come with this is unbearable. Until we meet again, Arran. I love you loads."

Crash investigation underway

The pensioner who also died in the collision has yet to be named. The tragedy unfolded as an amber weather warning for Storm Boelo was in place until Sunday evening across most of Scotland.

Images from the scene show a large cordon in place as officers examine the crash site. The road was closed to allow crash investigation work to take place, and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Dave Waddell said: "Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the two men who have died, and everyone affected by this incident."

He added: "Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to please contact us. In addition, anyone with relevant dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1770 of October 25, 2026.
