A five-year-old girl has died following a collision on the A59 in Gisburn, Lancashire, police have confirmed. The crash, which occurred at 3.55pm on Thursday, May 21, involved a Skoda Karoq and a Volkswagen Golf R.
The girl was a passenger in the Skoda, which was travelling westbound when it collided with the Volkswagen. The driver of the Skoda, a woman in her 60s, and two child passengers—a girl and a boy, both aged five—suffered severe injuries. The girl died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon, Lancashire Police said.
The boy and the woman remain in hospital receiving treatment for their injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen, a man in his 20s, also sustained serious injuries and is being treated as a witness in the investigation.
Sergeant Laura Kendall of the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit expressed her condolences, saying: 'It is heartbreaking news that the little girl has passed away and my thoughts first and foremost are with her family and loved ones.' She urged the public not to speculate about the incident, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
