Toddler falls between train and platform in Chengdu rescue

A toddler who slipped between a train and the platform at a station in Chengdu, southwest China, was rescued by a police officer, with the boy escaping without serious harm.

The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, when a woman was seen struggling to board a train with two large suitcases while her son trailed behind her. As she approached the doors, a railway officer shouted "hold your child's hand" and "mind the gap while boarding," anticipating the danger moments away.

Mother boards train as child falls

The mother heaved both bags onto the train and turned back towards her son, but he had already plummeted through the narrow gap. The officer then reached down to lift him back through the opening while comforting the child.

Clearly distressed, the boy was dragged back to the platform, where he was checked over for injuries, as reported by NeedToKnow. Miraculously, he escaped without being seriously harmed.

Social media backlash

Responding to the terrifying incident, social media users accused the mother of failing to watch her son properly. One person said: "This mom is really something. She's carrying two suitcases and doesn't even look back at her child. Can't you put one suitcase and the child in the car first, and then take the other suitcase? I'm really fed up! There's no excuse that can make me understand this parent. Their job is not done properly."

Another added: "First, never leave your child behind and they have to be your priority." A third commented: "Luggage more precious than children."
