Thames Valley Police confirmed that a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as a police vehicle was nearby at the time. The police car was on the opposite carriageway and was not using blue lights.

Lead investigating officer Oliver Cahill-Smith expressed his condolences to the girl's family and appealed for witnesses. He urged anyone with dash-cam footage from the area before the crash to come forward to assist the investigation.
