Three further individuals have been taken into custody following two separate incidents involving group gatherings in Hartlepool.
First incident: assault and robbery
The first incident, which occurred on Friday, saw officers called to a property where a group claimed to be staging a peaceful protest. A 29-year-old man was assaulted, subjected to racial abuse and had a bag stolen from him.
He was subsequently taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, where he spent the night receiving treatment. A 54-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has since been bailed while enquiries continue.
Second incident: bricks thrown at property
In a second, unrelated incident on Saturday, officers attended another Hartlepool property where a crowd had gathered outside. Windows had been smashed using rocks and bricks while children were present inside the building, reports Teesside Live.
A 46-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of duty, and has also been released on bail.
Further arrests and police statement
Cleveland Police confirmed on Sunday that three men, aged 19, 23 and 25, had been taken into custody. All three were arrested on suspicion of robbery, violent disorder, criminal disorder and using threatening or abusive behaviour to cause alarm and distress.
The 19-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug. All three have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Superintendent Paul Richardson, from Cleveland Police, said: "We will continue to arrest anyone suspected of causing disorder or committing violence in our communities. I hope these latest arrests demonstrate we can and will take action."
