Three Dead, 18 First Responders Hospitalized in NM Hazmat

Three people have died and more than a dozen first responders have been hospitalized following a possible hazmat situation in New Mexico. On Wednesday at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time, New Mexico State Police responded to a home in Mountainair for a suspected overdose, according to authorities. Inside the residence, four individuals were found unresponsive, and three of them later died, the state police confirmed.

During the incident, 18 first responders were exposed to an unidentified substance and subsequently transported to the hospital, along with the surviving individual from the home. The New Mexico State Police were assisting the Torrance County Sheriff's Office at the scene. It remains unclear how many members of each agency were affected by the substance.

Authorities have not yet identified the substance involved, and an investigation is ongoing. This is a developing story.
