An elderly man in his 80s has been stabbed to death while riding a mobility scooter in Greenford, west London. Metropolitan Police were called to Cayton Road just after 16:00 BST on Tuesday, but the victim died at the scene despite paramedics' efforts.
No arrests have been made, and detectives are working to inform the man's next of kin. The incident marks the sixth murder investigation launched in London in the past four days.
Witness Frasley Coutinho, who lives opposite the scene, reported seeing the victim surrounded by a group of youths. Another resident, Nick Lambie, said the victim was known for collecting charity donations and described the area as normally quiet.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood appealed for dash cam or cycle helmet footage from the Western Avenue A40 Eastbound near Cayton Road and Welland Gardens between 15:15 and 16:15. Police have cordoned off the area and increased patrols following the attack.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan expressed devastation at the killing, stating he is in close contact with the Met. According to BBC analysis, 66 murder investigations have been launched in London this year, with nearly two-thirds of victims stabbed.
