Two educators have died in a school shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Thailand, with at least 20 others injured. The suspected gunman, a ninth-grade student, also died, according to local media reports.
Incident Details
Police were called to the school, located north of Bangkok in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, on Friday after reports of an armed individual on the premises. Authorities urged the public to avoid the area while emergency services responded.
In a Facebook post, police advised: "Anyone trapped inside a building, hide, close everything tightly, and wait for rescue personnel to arrive."
Perpetrator and Response
The perpetrator was confirmed to be a pupil at the school. Dechrapee Kongdee, chief of the Nonthaburi provincial police, told the BBC that the suspected shooter was in ninth grade, typically 14 years old. The gunman is reported to have died by suicide, according to local media.
Pictures showed students fleeing the scene as police warned those inside to hide. The Debsirin School is a popular secondary institution with locations across the country. The first Debsirin School in Bangkok was founded by King Chulalongkorn in 1885 and has been attended by many public figures, including Thai prime ministers, diplomats, and athletes.
