Four people are dead, including the gunman, after a shooting spree spanning 24 miles of Texas highways, police said. The incident began around 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sugar Land, where a woman was shot multiple times in her vehicle on Dairy Ashford Road near U.S. 90. She was taken to hospital but pronounced dead.
Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson said the shooting was initially thought to be road rage, but the department later stated it was “not a random act of road rage violence.” Sugar Land police confirmed the victim had been in a relationship with the gunman, according to KPRC.
About 45 minutes later, the suspect drove to a mechanic shop on Fondren Road in southwest Houston, where he argued with the owner and opened fire, killing two men. The 51-year-old mechanic was shot and killed, and a witness who recorded the incident on a cellphone was also fatally shot, police said, citing surveillance footage.
Approximately 15 minutes after that, police responded to a third shooting on Creekbend Drive near South Gessner Road. There, they found the 42-year-old suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Crowson said. The identities of the victims and suspect have not yet been released.
