A Texas man has been charged with criminal trespass after allegedly playing an extreme game of hide-and-seek inside a Walmart store for more than three hours, according to local authorities.
Police in Corpus Christi responded to the retail giant's location on South Padre Island Drive after employees reported a suspicious individual hiding in the store. Officers discovered the 26-year-old man concealed within the premises long after closing time.
Extended Game Goes Too Far
Security footage revealed the suspect had entered the store during normal business hours but remained inside intentionally after closing. Walmart staff became aware of his presence when they heard unexplained noises during their closing procedures.
"This wasn't a case of someone accidentally being locked in," explained Corpus Christi Police Department spokesperson. "The individual made deliberate efforts to conceal himself and avoid detection for an extended period."
Legal Consequences
The man now faces Class B misdemeanor charges for criminal trespass, which in Texas can result in up to 180 days in jail and fines reaching $2,000. Local authorities emphasized that while the circumstances might seem humorous, trespassing in commercial properties after hours constitutes a serious offense.
Walmart representatives confirmed they are reviewing their security protocols but declined to comment further on the ongoing legal matter. The retail chain maintains a strict policy against unauthorized after-hours presence in their stores.
