Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a $1 million theft from a Walmart in Texas, police have confirmed.
Ryan Munoz and Carmelo Amigleo, both 18 and from San Angelo, were taken into custody on Sunday without incident. The San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) alleges that the pair stole over $1 million worth of goods from the store over the course of a year.
Police have not specified whether the theft involved cash, merchandise, or a combination of both. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, SAPD Chief Travis Griffith stated that the money was stolen by “employees”, but did not confirm if the two suspects were employed by Walmart.
The investigation began on 24 July after police received a tip-off about a large-scale theft at the San Angelo Walmart. On 28 July, detectives discovered evidence at nearby homes and obtained search warrants for the two men, leading to their arrest.
Chief Griffith urged local residents to provide any anonymous information that could assist the ongoing investigation. “The safety and well-being of our community remain a top priority, and the SAPD will continue to pursue any additional leads in this case,” the department said in a statement.
Munoz and Amigleo remain in custody with bonds set at $350,000 each.
