Three teenagers have been arrested after a boy was robbed of his bike at knifepoint, which then led police to a stash of drugs and weapons being found in Liverpool.
Around 4.30pm on Sunday, August 9, two teens jumped from a bush and threatened a 13-year-old boy at knifepoint in Calderstones Park. The victim handed over his e-bike and the suspects fled the scene.
Tracking Device Leads to Discovery
The bike was fitted with a tracking device and was traced to an address in Kirkdale, where following a search of a flat, police found the stolen bike as well as two machetes, an extendable baton, a large quantity of cannabis, suspected pink cocaine and scales.
Police arrested an 18-year-old man from Kirkdale on suspicion of robbery, possession of a controlled class A drug, possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, and possession with intent to supply a controlled class B drug.
Two More Arrests
Two 18-year-old men from Norris Green and Anfield have also been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, possession of a controlled class A drug, possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, and possession with intent to supply a controlled class B drug. One of the 18-year-old teens was further arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place.
The three suspects are in police custody for questioning.
Police Comment
Detective Inspector Paula Jones said: “This was a frightening experience for the boy who thankfully wasn’t injured. Thanks to the tracking device fitted in the bike we were able to locate it, discover suspected drug dealing and a seize a number of weapons.
“Operation Gears is Merseyside Police’s response to the illegal use of bikes including electric and electrically assisted bikes by criminals, who often steal them to travel around Merseyside transporting drugs and weapons.
“Please be assured we are taking firm and proactive action, seizing illegal bikes, arresting offenders, and increasing patrols in key areas to disrupt criminal networks and keep our communities safe.
“The support of the public is a vital part of our efforts to stop criminals in their tracks, and stop them bringing intimidation, violence and misery into the heart of our communities.
