A 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being stabbed in Harpurhey, with police launching an investigation into the attack.
Officers were called to reports of an 'ongoing incident' on Emmett Street East in the Manchester suburb at around 2pm on Wednesday (September 16). They discovered a boy, 16, with injuries 'consistent with a stabbing', Greater Manchester Police said.
Hospital treatment and scene cordon
The teenager was taken to hospital with wounds described as neither 'life threatening' nor 'life-changing'. A cordon was put in place at the scene but has now been lifted.
No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing, with people living in the area describing the incident as 'terrible'.
Residents react to the incident
One man, who declined to be named, said: “I was in the back when it all happened. I came to the front and saw the police had blocked it all off. I saw the ambulance first and I was a bit shocked.
“Normally it’s quite quiet around here. The most important thing is the lad's alright, but it’s terrible isn’t it.”
A woman, who also preferred to remain anonymous, added: “I didn’t know about it until police knocked at my door. They said it was something to do with a knife. This street is usually quiet, but it’s not out of the ordinary for something like this to happen in this area.”

A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 2pm today (Wednesday 16 September 2026), we were called to reports of an ongoing incident on Emmett Street East in Harpurhey.
"Officers attended the scene and located a 16-year-old boy who had received an injury that was consistent with a stabbing. He has been taken to hospital where he remains with injuries that have been described as not life-threatening or life-changing.
"No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
