A 15-year-old girl was kidnapped at knifepoint in a random attack in Greater Manchester, police have said. The teenager was walking alone on Bradgate Road in Bowdon, Altrincham, when she was forced into a vehicle at around 6.45pm on Monday.
The victim told officers she was threatened with a knife during the seven-hour ordeal. She was reported missing at around 9pm that evening, prompting a police search.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Cheshire Police found the vehicle in a car park at the Cottons Hotel and Spa in Knutsford, Cheshire. The girl was located inside and a 56-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
Greater Manchester Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of abduction and remains in custody. They added: "Specialist officers are supporting the girl and her family. There is no wider risk to the public."
The incident is being treated as random, with detectives believing the teenager and suspect were unknown to each other. The man, described as white, has been granted an extension to his detention for further questioning.
