A 16-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car outside Birmingham City's football ground, and a man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Collision near St Andrew's stadium
West Midlands Police were called to the junction of Cattell Road and Templefield Street in Small Heath at around 5.25am on Friday, August 28. The teenager, who had been riding a bicycle, was struck by a car near Birmingham City's St Andrew's stadium.
He was rushed to hospital following the collision but died the following day, Saturday, August 29, police have confirmed. According to BirminghamLive, the victim has since been named online as teenager Muhammad Ismail Alum.
Arrest and investigation
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision and arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remained in police custody when the force issued its latest update.
West Midlands Police said: "Our thoughts are with his loved ones who are being supported and updated by specialist officers.
"Our enquiries are continuing and yesterday, a man aged 47 was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and he remains in police custody.
"We are still urging anyone who has information or footage to get in touch with us."
