A 15-year-old boy arrested following a double stabbing in Prestwich has been released on bail, police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the incident on Whittaker Lane, near Heaton Park, just before 6pm on Tuesday evening (September 22). An air ambulance landed in the park nearby as the street was cordoned off.
Two taken to hospital
A teenage boy, aged 16, and a man, aged 18, were both taken to hospital with stab injuries. According to Greater Manchester Police, these were believed to be life threatening or life changing.
The 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken into custody for questioning. In an update issued today (Thursday), a GMP spokesperson said he has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Police say incident isolated
Forensic officers were spotted scouring the area after the incident. Police said previously they believed the stabbing to be 'isolated'.
Detective Superintendent Gareth Jenkins, from GMP’s Bury district, said previously: “Violence on our streets will not be tolerated, and I want to reassure members of the public that we believe this is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.
“We know that knife crime causes significant concern within our communities, and we want the public to know that we will continue to pursue offenders, remove weapons from circulation and take positive action to keep people safe.”
