A 14-year-old schoolboy was attacked as he left a Tyneside school with his mum, suffering head and neck injuries. The incident occurred on Churchill Street in Wallsend on Monday afternoon, shortly after the victim had been collected early from Churchill Academy by a parent.
The school has confirmed that the attackers are not Churchill students. A spokeswoman for Churchill Academy said: "Yesterday, while leaving our school site with their parent, a student was injured by two individuals who do not attend our school. Staff members who witnessed the incident acted quickly to provide support and engage emergency services. Police attended the scene quickly, and we are supporting them with their enquiries."

The North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to an incident near Coast Road in Wallsend shortly before 3pm on Monday. We dispatched one ambulance crew, one specialist paramedic and one clinical team leader to the incident. One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."
School reassures community
The school spokeswoman added: "We would like to confirm that this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider school community. We understand that this incident may cause concern, and we want to reassure students, parents and carers, that the safety, wellbeing and welfare of our pupils and staff remain our highest priority."
Police enquiries are ongoing, and no weapons are understood to have been used in the assault. At this early stage, officers believe those involved to be known to each other.
