A 19-year-old man was arrested after jumping into the River Clyde to evade police in Glasgow. The incident occurred following a report of suspected drug dealing activity on Clyde Street in the city centre.
Emergency response closes Albert Bridge
Police were called to the scene at 5.50pm on Thursday, August 27. On arrival, officers saw a man flee the location before entering the river, prompting a large emergency response. Albert Bridge was closed to both traffic and pedestrians during the operation.
The man was retrieved from the water and subsequently arrested and charged in connection with obstruction, breach of peace, and culpable and reckless conduct.
Released pending court appearance
He was released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.50pm on Thursday, 27 August, 2026 police were called to a report of suspected drug dealing activity in Clyde Street, Glasgow. Officers attended and a man made off from the scene into the River Clyde.”
The spokesperson added: “A 19-year-old man was retrieved from the water and was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with obstruction, breach of peace and culpable and reckless conduct. He was released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.”
