Music Teacher Confesses to Prolonged Sexual Abuse of Schoolboy
A music teacher who pleaded guilty to repeatedly sexually abusing a schoolboy is now living in seclusion in the back room of her family home, as her husband shuttles their son between her and her parents. Naomi Tekea Craig, aged 33, entered guilty pleas on Tuesday to 15 charges related to child sex offences committed against a former student at an Anglican school in Mandurah, located approximately an hour south of Perth.
Details of the Abuse and Legal Proceedings
Court documents reveal that Craig abused the boy over a span of around 14 months, from October 2024 until December 16, starting when the victim was just 12 years old. The abuse persisted until her arrest, which occurred when she was about eight months pregnant with his child, born on January 8. Following her court appearance, Craig was granted bail after posting a $20,000 personal liability and providing a $50,000 surety. She has since been residing in a rear bedroom of the $740,000 home she purchased with her husband last year.
Due to restrictions prohibiting unsupervised visits with her toddler, her husband—who only recently discovered he is not the biological father of her second child—now drives their older child between Craig's location and her parents' home. Since confessing to her crimes, Craig has reportedly only ventured outside under the cover of darkness. Neighbours have told sources they rarely saw her even prior to her arrest in December, noting she would typically drive into the garage, close the electronic door, and vanish from view.
Community Reactions and Sentencing Prospects
One neighbour remarked, 'I've never heard anything from that house. Not even a child's laugh or cry.' Another stated they were unaware Craig was pregnant and had only spotted her once during her six-month residence. It has also emerged that her husband had informed close family members that 'our baby is due in two weeks,' highlighting his shock upon learning the child's paternity. Meanwhile, schoolchildren in Mandurah allege the victim still intends to run away with Craig once her sentence is completed.
Craig is scheduled to be sentenced in the District Court at a later date, facing the possibility of a lengthy prison term. In Western Australia, individuals convicted of sexual offences against children can receive sentences of up to 20 years. Additionally, due to the severity of her crimes, she may be placed on the state's sex offender registry, which would mandate her to notify police of her whereabouts.
Photoshoots and Court Appearance
In a disturbing twist, Craig participated in multiple professional maternity photoshoots in November and December, just days before her arrest and while the abuse was ongoing. According to deleted social media posts, she had about three shoots with different photographers when she was seven and eight months pregnant with her victim's baby. The photos depicted her in suggestive poses, including wearing a leopard print two-piece with a midriff to showcase her pregnancy bump and zebra-inspired jeans with the top buttons and fly undone.
One photographer described her as a 'Christina Aguilera doppelgänger,' while another referred to her as an 'absolute bombshell.' A third shoot in Fremantle, where she paired a scarf with tracksuit pants, was labelled 'fierce, wild, beautifully chaotic' in a post uploaded on December 7. These images were shared just one month before the birth and nine days before the final instance of abuse on December 16.
During her appearance in Mandurah Magistrates Court via audio link on Tuesday, Magistrate Clare Cullen read the charges aloud. These included multiple counts of penetration of a child under 13, sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, indecent dealings with a child under 13, and possessing child exploitation material. Twelve of the incidents occurred in the Mandurah suburb of Silver Sands, with three taking place nearby in Meadow Springs. To each charge, Craig responded, 'Guilty, your honour.' She will be required to appear in person when her case is mentioned in the District Court on March 27.
