TalkTV presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer questioned a former intelligence officer about the ongoing migrant crisis, during which the security journalist proposed a scathing solution involving internment camps, rapid deportation, and a ban on benefits for non-British passport holders.
In a segment on the news channel, Hartley-Brewer spoke with security journalist Philip Ingram about English Channel boat crossings as the Home Office investigates undetected landings.
Undetected landings and lorry crossings
Hartley-Brewer opened the discussion by saying: “I’m assuming, and I’ve always assumed, that this is happening all the time and it’s only the ones who then want to do the asylum claim and get into the houses of multiple occupancy, or the hotels, or whatever, who are actually bothering to claim. The other people, who are just working illegally or whatever, they just rock up anyway.
“Do you really believe these are the only two boats not to be intercepted in the last year, which is what we’re being told?”
Ingram responded: “No, not at all, and we’re not hearing the statistics, still, about those sneaking in through lorries and other things.”
Hartley-Brewer then said: “That’s still going on, on a grand scale!”
Proposed internment camps and benefits ban
The security journalist went on: “The thing that saddens me about this is, with Shabana Mahmood there’s an assumption of migrants coming across the Channel, and therefore we have to identify that they’re coming across the Channel.
“You could do it quite easily, I’ve said it several times on air today. Have them brought and put straight into internment camps and then deport [them] as quickly as possible! That would stop the pull into this country.
“Then ban benefits! Anyone who’s not a British passport holder should not get access to benefits, full stop.”
