New South Wales police have identified the man killed in a shooting in Sydney's south-west as 28-year-old Alai Ahio. The incident, which occurred at a home on Arbutus Street in Canley Heights on Tuesday evening, also left four other men injured.
Detective Superintendent Craig Middleton told reporters that police believe the attack was targeted and may have links to organised crime. 'We are aware of some organised crime links although I can't confirm that at this stage,' he said. He described the incident as 'brazen and violent'.
Police are searching for two men who entered the home before a number of gunshots were heard. The suspects then fled in a vehicle that has not yet been recovered. All five victims are known to each other, according to police.
Three of the injured men remain in hospital. A 32-year-old is in a serious but stable condition with a neck injury, while a 23-year-old and a 22-year-old are being treated for gunshot wounds to the neck and shoulder respectively. A 19-year-old with arm injuries is in a stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing, with officers examining the crime scene and gathering evidence from the hospitals where the victims presented themselves.
