Police taped off a shopping area in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, after reports of a suspicious package. Officers were called to Faulkner Road just before 3pm on Wednesday following concerns about an item.
Investigation and outcome
A cordon was put in place while the item was assessed. Durham Constabulary later confirmed the package was scrap metal and the cordon was removed.
A force spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a suspicious package in Faulkner Road, Newton Aycliffe, just before 3pm today. Officers attended and a cordon was put in place until the item could be assessed. Thankfully, it was found to be scrap metal and the cordon was removed."
